Showcasing the Next Generation of Legal Talent

This year’s competition features an exciting series of rounds, highlighting the skill and dedication of law students who are preparing to become leaders in the legal field. Last night, the Best Two Oralists were recognized for their exceptional advocacy and command of the law.

Today, the event reaches its grand finale with the final round argued before a distinguished panel of three federal circuit court judges. This mock trial simulates proceedings before the Supreme Court of the United States—pushing students to present compelling arguments on cutting-edge immigration issues.

Issues at the Center of Debate

The case materials for this year’s competition present two highly relevant and complex questions:

1. Prolonged ICE Detention – What constitutional limits exist on the government’s ability to hold immigrants in detention for extended periods of time?

2. Child Abuse Convictions Without Physical Injury – Can a parent be convicted of child abuse when no physical injury is shown, but two minor children are alleged victims?

Both issues strike at the heart of immigrant rights, due process, and the balance between government authority and individual liberty.
